President's Message
Our topic for our January 21st meeting is
Electronic Records: Scanning Documents In-House- It Can Be Done!
Presented by Jeff Dalton
Jeff Dalton is a paralegal with 20-plus years of experience in the legal field. He has worked on cases with up to five million documents. Jeff currently works at Lloyd, Gray & Whitehead, P.C. He works extensively with scanning and managing massive amounts of data for legal cases and exploiting that data using software systems. He will discuss the benefits of scanning documents in-house, how it can work in the real world, types of software and equipment available, how these software systems work, the process for conversion of records from paper to electronic format, and how companies can benefit from doing it themselves versus outsourcing it.
Please RSVP to me (ksides@lgwpc.com) by Noon on Monday, January 18, 2010. We will have our January meeting at the Vestavia Country Club Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:30. Lunch for this meeting will be Honey Smoked Ham & Asparagus Crepe Topped with Melted Gruyere Cheese & Served with Herb Broiled Tomato, Lemon Chess Pie. The cost of lunch is $15.00. However, you are not required to purchase lunch to enjoy the camaraderie and professional development opportunities you will find in our local ARMA Chapter. When you RSVP to me, please let me know if you will be eating lunch. Lunch begins at 11:30, followed by our presentation which will begin around 12:00. If you are bringing guests, please let me know their names and how many are attending. We hope to see everyone there!
Below you will find updates on our chapter:
Please check out the Meetings page of our website to get up-to-date info on our upcoming meetings.
The Big E: Electronic Records Management, our Spring Seminar, will be held April 15th at Protective. More Information will be coming soon. Mark your calendars and stay tuned!
Birmingham ARMA will be welcoming sponsors for The Big E Spring Seminar. Details on sponsorship will be coming soon!
Membership Renewals: With the current economic conditions and many employers no longer paying individual membership dues for their employees, ARMA is implementing an optional two-pay plan for members, with payment spread out over six months. Please see the Events section of our website for details www.bhamarma.org/
Our website has been updated, so please be sure to visit it periodically.
We will continue the sponsorship program where businesses can sponsor our meetings. The application is attached to this email, and it can be found on the homepage of our website.
In these difficult economic times, some of our membership are looking for employment. If your company or employer has openings for records and information management or related positions, please send me the link, and I will post them on the Events page of our website. There will be no cost for posting jobs or links on the website, as this is one way our local ARMA chapter can assist our membership in their professional development. Before you send Birmingham ARMA a link to your company's website, please make sure that your HR department has approved the link being posted on our website. ARMA is not guaranteeing any position listed or linked will be open or will remain open. This is just one more way for RIM job seekers to hear about open positions in our area. This cannot work without your help. When the job is filled, please let me know so I can have the link removed. For those of you who are searching for jobs, please check the website regularly, as I won't be sending emails to everyone about openings. Please let me know if you have any questions.
The Board of Directors has opened up our meetings to sponsorship, which will reduce the rising cost of lunch to $15. In exchange, our sponsors will provide a five minute introduction for the luncheon they sponsor, and they will have a link to their website on the homepage of our website for the year. Sponsorship of a meeting is only $150. If your company is interested in sponsoring a meeting, please fill out the attached Sponsorship Application.
Cancelation Policy: We let our contact at VCC know what our reservation numbers for lunch are around 2:00 on the Monday before the meetings. Once I give them our numbers, we are responsible for paying for the lunches that have been ordered, and we cannot cancel them. This means that once you RSVP, you cannot cancel your lunch order if I've already given it to VCC.
Regards,
Kat
