Manager of Records Job Posting

RIM Operatons Manager

I am extremely pleased to announce that Chris Williams of Protective Life has accepted the position of Secretary for our chapter. He will be serving the remainder of our 2009-2010 operating year. On behalf of the Birmingham Chapter, thank you, Chris! Also, if you haven’t signed up for the Spring Seminar, The Big E: Electronic Records Management on April 15 at the Protective Life Corporation, please do so as soon as possible. I’ve attached the registration and sponsorship forms which can also be found on our website on the Home Page and the Events Page. Feel free to bring your seminar registration forms and checks to the meeting and give them to me (Kat). I will email you a receipt after the meeting. Companies planning to sponsor our seminar are encouraged to act fast to secure your spot, as sponsor space is limited. For everyone planning to attend, get your registration forms in as soon as possible; early registration costs less!!

It is that time of year again when our local election process begins. If you are interested in serving on the Nomination Committee or if you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, please let me know as soon as possible. Elections are held in May. Positions available are:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
2 Board Member Seats

I am also happy to announce that we have a job posting for a Manager of Records to be based in Dallas, TX. They are seeking someone with experience in a Law Firm or Corporate Legal environment. Relocation assistance is available. The job description and further information about how to apply will be available on the President’s Message page. I’ve also attached it to this email.

Our topic for our March 18, 2010 meeting is Archives presented by Jim Baggett, Head of the Department of Archives and Manuscripts at the Birmingham Public Library and Archivist for the City of Birmingham. He has served as president of the Society of Alabama Archivists and Chair of the Jefferson County Historical Commission. Jim has authored or edited four books on Birmingham and Alabama history, including A Woman of the Town: Louie Wooster, Birmingham’s Magdalen and Alabama Illustrated: Engravings from 19th Century Newspapers. He has also written on archival preservation and local history for Alabama Librarian, Alabama Heritage and Birmingham magazines. We’re very pleased to have Mr. Baggett join us.

Please RSVP to me (ksides@lgwpc.com) by Noon on Monday, March 15, 2010. We will have our March meeting at the Vestavia Country Club Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11:30. Lunch for this meeting will be Warm Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing and for dessert Apple Crisp with Chantilly Crème. The cost of lunch is $15.00. However, you are not required to purchase lunch to enjoy the camaraderie and professional development opportunities you will find in our local ARMA Chapter. When you RSVP to me, please let me know if you will be eating lunch. Lunch begins at 11:30, followed by our presentation which will begin around 12:00. If you are bringing guests, please let me know their names and how many are attending. We hope to see everyone there!

Please check out the Meetings page of our website to get up-to-date info on our upcoming meetings.

  • The Big E: Electronic Records Management, our Spring Seminar, will be held April 15th at Protective. It has been pre-approved by ICRM for 4.5 hours of CRM CEU credit. You can get more details on the Events Page of our website by downloading the Registration Form which has full details of the event. We are also soliciting for sponsors of the event. If your company is interested in sponsoring the seminar, please let me know as soon as possible to lock in your spot.
  • The 2010 ARMA Southeast Region Educational Conference will be held April 21-23, 2010 in Safety Harbor, just outside of Tampa, FL. For more information, please go to www.armase.org by clicking on the region conference banner, on the right side of the page.
  • We have a no-solicitation policy during our meetings, unless that solicitation has been approved for sponsorship of meetings or Birmingham ARMA events.
  • We have reserved our dates with the Vestavia Country Club for the upcoming operating year 2010-2011. Please see the bottom of this message for the dates. Mark your calendars!
  • Membership Renewals: With the current economic conditions and many employers no longer paying individual membership dues for their employees, ARMA is implementing an optional two-pay plan for members, with payment spread out over six months. Please see the Join Us section of our website for details.
  • We will continue the sponsorship program where businesses can sponsor our meetings. The application can be found on the homepage of our website.
  • In these difficult economic times, some of our membership are looking for employment. If your company or employer has openings for records and information management or related positions, please send me the link, and I will post them on the President’s Message page of our website. There will be no cost for posting jobs or links on the website, as this is one way our local ARMA chapter can assist our membership in their professional development. Before you send Birmingham ARMA a link to your company's website, please make sure that your HR department has approved the link being posted on our website. ARMA is not guaranteeing any position listed or linked will be open or will remain open. This is just one more way for RIM job seekers to hear about open positions in our area. This cannot work without your help. When the job is filled, please let me know so I can have the link removed. For those of you who are searching for jobs, please check the website regularly, as I won't be sending emails to everyone about openings. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The Board of Directors has opened up our meetings to sponsorship, which will reduce the rising cost of lunch to $15. In exchange, our sponsors will provide a five to ten minute introduction for the luncheon they sponsor, and they will have a link to their website on the homepage of our website for the year. Sponsorship of a meeting is only $150. If your company is interested in sponsoring a meeting, please fill out the attached Sponsorship Application.

Cancelation Policy: We let our contact at VCC know what our reservation numbers for lunch are around 2:00 on the Monday before the meetings. Once I give them our numbers, we are responsible for paying for the lunches that have been ordered, and we cannot cancel them. This means that once you RSVP, you cannot cancel your lunch order if I've already given it to VCC.

Mark your calendars for next year!!! 2010-2011 Operating Year
